Michael Holland
Michael Holland, composer/lyricist/orchestrator/arranger/producer, has created incidental music for various productions at Playwrights Horizons, Bay Street Theater, Dallas Theater Center, The Old Globe, Alley Theater, Colorado Shakespeare, and many other regional theatres. He wrote music, lyrics, orchestrations and vocal arrangements for Twelve Angry Men: A Musical (book by David Simpatico), which premiered at Theater Latté Da in Minneapolis in 2022; a second production followed in 2024 at Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota. Other recent projects include: original music for the new play Clue, currently in its third year of touring the United States; arrangements and EDM production for the world premiere of The Ugly Xmas Sweater Musical for Theater Under the Stars, Houston; and orchestrations and vocal arrangements for From Here to Eternity (lyrics by Tim Rice, music by Stuart Brayson) at Skylight Music Theatre in Milwaukee.
Michael made his Broadway debut with the orchestrations and vocal arrangements for the revival of Godspell (dir. Daniel Goldstein); he also co-produced the Original Cast Recording for Ghostlight Records, with Stephen Schwartz and Kurt Deutsch. He produced, arranged and provided multi-instrumentation/vocals on Farah Alvin’s On Vinyl recording in 2023, and music directed her live show of the same name as well as its spinoff, B-side. He arranged and music directed the innovative and acclaimed actor/musician production of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, and he created orchestrations, vocal arrangements and original music for Emma: A Pop Musical, performed by numerous high schools across the country.
Upcoming projects include an adaptation of Wally Lamb’s bestselling novel (and Oprah’s Book Club selection) She’s Come Undone (music and lyrics; book by Darrah Cloud and David Simpatico), to premiere at Theater Latté Da in Minneapolis in 2026-27. Michael has also music-directed (what feels like) seven million cabaret shows, sung with orchestras and scored a short film. Hobbies include biking, beachcombing, sleeping and writing bios.
